Here is some software I suggest you try. It is really important to get at least Anti-Virus and a Firewall program on your system, and a anti spyware/adware program is important also!

SPAM

SPAM is the bane of the internet! Something really has to be done about it! Check out one of my favorite sites here: SPAM Cop

I have found the best tool for me has been SPAM Pal and it is FREE! Give it a try! it takes some effort to set up, READ THE MANUAL, but WOW! what a great time saver once you are done! It works with any email client and is the best Anti-SPAM system I have seen.

For the non-technical that wants an easy to use anti-SPAM tool that only works with Outlook Express and Outlook 2000/2002 try iHateSPAM from SunBelt Software, it is not as good, but, is VERY easy to use.

Anti-Virus

Get the free version of AVG from GriSoft. It has been better than any other Anti-Virus software for myself including Norton's AV product. And update your DAT files daily! I can't stress this enough!

Firewall

Just as important as Anti-Virus, get a firewall! You will be shocked how many people and programs is breaking in and sending your personal information out of your system. Again, I can't stress this enough! you NEED a firewall.

I like ZoneAlarm from ZoneLabs, there is a Free Version that will work for most people, and a Pro Version and a Plus Version for those that run ICS or other Internet Connection Sharing software.

Spyware and Adware

Very important also, you need to run one of these type of programs to clean your system of programs that steal your information and trace your movements. I like Ad-aware but, to get all the features you have to buy it, a program just as good but completely free is Spybot Search and Destroy. Get it and run it frequently. You may be very surprised how much spyware is on your system.

Pop-up blocker

One of the most annoying things, besides all the SPAM, is pop-ups. get the free Google Toolbar with pop-up blocker.

Hey, it's free and you just have to hate those pop-up windows!
