Before you begin:
The
DivX CoDec is
favored by many, but, I am others I know have had problems with
audio/video sync. I have had better luck with the
Kristal Studio Codecs Pack 4.3.3. I would suggest you try the
DivX first, if it
works, great, if not use the
Kristal Studio Codecs Pack 4.3.3.
The five steps to
making a VCD from a VHS tape or other analog source:
-
Capturing The Video
-
Processing The Video
-
Rendering The Video to
Mpeg format
-
Burning your VCD
-
Resizing your
MPEG files to fit on one VCD

Ripping
the DVD:
You will start by inserting the DVD you
wish to rip into your DVD drive and starting the SmartRipper program.
On the first screen set your target directory to where you want you
VOB files to be stored.

Click on Settings and change your
setting to match these. (NOTE: you do not need DeMacrovision
on, it will be stripped when the file is processed later and will slow
the process down considerably.) Then
click ok.

Now click on start and let the program
do it's work.

Processing the VOB
files to an AVI DivX file:
Opening the first file
in FlaskMPEG will also open all the other files and you will have the
whole movie opened to process.

Start up FlaskMPEG and open the first
file. If there are more than one audio track you will get a screen
something like this, pick the proper track and click the "Flask it!"
button. NOTE: Track 0x80 is the default audio track, so, if this is an
English DVD and you want the English sound track pick the 0x80, if you
want another audio track you will have to open one and listen to it to
see if it is the one you want.

Once opened you will see two screens
like the ones below:

Click the "Select Output>>" button and
click on "OpenDML AVI Output"
Click on the "Configure button"
Set your setting like the following
screen shots, You can change the video Width and Height to what you
want them to be, on the Files Tab set your output path to where you want
your processed files to go.

Click the OK button.
Click the "Flask it!" button and you
will see the following screen. Pick your MPEG Layer-3 for your Audio
CoDec and pick your format depending on your tastes, pick the DivX
CoDec of your choice and double click it to set the DivX settings.

This is the settings
screen for the
Kristal Studio Codecs Pack 4.3.3 DivX CoDec. I suggest Keyframe
every 3 seconds Compression 100 and Data Rate 900 as a good starting
place, your mileage will vary. Click OK and Click OK again to start
the processing.

Once you have done this to your
VOB files, you have your DivX AVI file to view, upload, or burn on CD.
